1. Compete in a less crowded market place. Put key words in Google and count the number of ads. A long list of ads indicates that there is plenty of competition selling the product or service.Seek products that are not only in a less crowded niche of the market place but buy & evaluate the product yourself so that you can enthusiastically endorse the product. If you don't like it, how can you successfully promote it?. Learn the interests and language of the target market members by reading relevant ezines and/or visiting forums that attract members of the target market . It will be time consuming, but if you do a survey of the prospects, like the pioneer online marketing success Cory Rudl did, you will know what subjects interest and concern the market members.
2. The ads that crowd my mailbox shout that affiliate marketing is easy and attempt to seduce me with claims that a hard working expert's method will make me a millionaire. Well, we have to work.. We not only must find products in niches that are not extremely competitive and that we like using ourselves but we must spend time and/or money promoting the product. The good news is that affiliate marketing does not require us to make our own products, does not have to be expensive, and we do not even have to have our own websites.
3. You can work with exzample.com and/or PayDot.com and promote digital products. Using either service takes a little study and practice, but there is no cash investment. Affiliate Alert Pro does require a fee to use the service but offers the advantage of letting you know what products are new to Click Bank and if a new product is growing in popularity. Affiliate Alert Pro will also quickly tell you how much competition there is among affiliates. You can gather the same information directly from Click Bank. It just takes a more time.
4. You will want the merchant to pay at least a 50 percent commission when you sell his product. You may benefit from knowing that some merchants pay on two levels. Some keep your cookie active for months. So, if a prospect returns and buys the product at a later time, you will still get credit for the sale.
5. Read relevant ezines, such http://www.affiliatepronews.com/ as in order to become familiar with methods of other affiliates. You can examine a list of ezines at http://www.bestezines.com. (copy and paste urls into your browser,)
6. You will benefit from building a list of prospects and customers by using an autoresponder, such as Aweber or Get Response to capture names and emails of respondents to your promotions. You could be selling products to prospects successfully; but if something should happen to your website or a merchant stopped offering a product that you had successfully promoted, your customer base would vanish.
Aweber has a very useful video and a pdf ebook so that you may learn how to use the autoresponder service. So, please use an autoresponder to build your list.

8. You can pay for traffic with ads in ezines, adding banners on your websites, and pay per click ad services, such as Google adwords. Pay Per Click can hurt you with big bills unless you become savy about the process. Perry Marshall and Bryon Todd skillfully described the steps to success with Google pay per click advertising in their soft cover book The ultimate Guide To Google Adwords, Entrepreneur Magazines, 2007.
You can get free traffic by writing articles or posting and maintaining a blog. Blogging services are deleting blogs that attempt to profit by referring traffic to third parties unless the blogger who advertises on the blog maintains his own domain. See the ebook Blogging to the Bank2 by Bob Benwell for a detailed discussion of using a blog as a free traffic building method.
9. You can dramatically increase your profit potential by testing and re-testing your ad copy, headlines, and advertising methods. Marshall and Todd explain in detail (page 83) how to use split testing to reduce your cost per customer if you are using Google Adwords to advertise. .Their analysis of cost per lead and cost per customer will help you regardless of whether you use Google or another method of attracting leads.
10. Finally you will know what advertising campaigns are profitable when you track your ad costs, conversion rates, and income. I belong to Derrick VanDyk's membership program with Affiliate Cash Secrets and can use the members' website to find profitable affiliate programs, track my campaigns, and receive prompt and helpful support from his staff. Several useful ebooks and tips about profitable marketing tactics are also included in the membership. Perhaps you, too, will find a membership program that is affordable and equally helpful. You can easily use a Google search to find several in a few minutes. I don't know how you feel about the sales funnel that on line marketers use. I get irritated when the price and full aspects of the service are withheld until I have made commitments. Perhaps that explains my commitment to a single affiliate training program and studious rejection of others.
